Teenage Joans have returned with another belting preview of their upcoming debut album, leaning into their pop-punk side (and shamelessly chaotic tendencies) with the ultra-catchy 5 Things I Can Taste.
According to the band in a press release, it was the last song they wrote for that aforementioned LP – The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest, due out October 13 via Domestic La La – and came when they were “looking for the missing piece” that would tie the whole record up with a neat lil’ bow.
They explained: “We realised we wanted to write a fast-paced, almost punk song to top off the album. The lyric structure is pretty interesting too - each line starts with the last word of the line before it. As ‘counting five things you can see’ is a mechanism to help ground yourself when experiencing anxiety, we wanted the lyrics to feel sporadic and chaotic, kind of how anxious thoughts feel.”
The track arrives alongside a live performance video, which you can take a look at below (alongside the studio mix you’ll hear on the album).

The band will also perform at the Grapevine Gathering festival all throughout October, and open for the Foo Fighters in Perth and Melbourne.
