Teenage Joans Premiering Indie Horror Film With Acoustic Tour

After weeks of teasing, Teenage Joans have officially detailed their upcoming indie horror film – named for and based on their recent debut album, The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest – alongside an intimate acoustic tour to premiere it.

The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest: The Film is said to “expand the universe” of Teenage Joans’ career-defining album, which arrived last october via Domestic La La and featured gems like Superglue, Candy Apple and 5 Things I Can Taste. Directed and edited by Jamie Al Kayyali, the film was completely self-funded and scored by the Adelaide (Kaurna) duo, who also star in multiple roles.

So reads its official synopsis: “The film follows Cahli [Blakers, vocals/guitar] and Tahlia [Borg, drums/vocals] of Teenage Joans (as themselves) on a magical yet leery journey through Rotland. After becoming acquainted with the Easter Bunny (played by Blakers) and Tooth Fairy (played by Borg), the bewitching pair discover the land’s forbidden fruits, the candy apples, and the hidden secrets that they hold.”

The duo themselves will premiere the film at a trio of special events, where in addition to big-screen airings of it, they’ll deliver intimate acoustic performances. They’ll kick things off in Sydney (Eora) on Monday February 5 – taking over the Dendy cinema in Newtown – before rolling through to the Lido cinema in Melbourne (Naarm) on Wednesday February 7, and wrapping up at the Mercury cinema in Adelaide (Kaurna) on Thursday February 8.

Meanwhile, Teenage Joans will join Tony Hawk to soundtrack a hectic live skate demo in Brisbane later this month. After they premiere their film, too, they’ll head Stateside for a run of shows supporting NOAHFINNCE.
