Sunnyboys Announce Summer 2018 East Coast Tour

What originally started as a once-off reunion five years ago has turned into a fully fledged renaissance for legendary Australian band Sunnyboys, and the long-serving luminaries are looking to extend their new golden age a little further with the announcement of a six-date east coast tour early next year.

The band will kick off their run in Brisbane, gracing The Tivoli on Thursday 25 January, before heading on to stages on the Gold and Sunshine coasts, Melbourne and Sydney, where they close out in early February with back-to-back performances at The Factory Theatre.

Fellow seasoned rockers The Celibate Rifles will join them for all dates except Melbourne, for which stalwart hometown outfit Painters & Dockers will come aboard for the festivities.

Since breaking their 21-year hiatus in 2012 for a low-key performance at the Hoodoo Gurus' Dig It Up! invitational, the Sunnyboys — touting their full original line-up — have gone on to draw massive crowds for shows at events such as A Day On The Green, which they co-headlined in 2015, as well as selling out events at the Enmore Theatre and Sydney Opera House, not to mention in Melbourne, Byron Bay, Perth and other locales.

"We really didn't think we would ever play again as a band," bassist Peter Oxley said. "But, wow, we have, and we sure are having a bloody great time doing it."

"I didn't know if I would even enjoy it, but the way we were accepted back made it like a dream come true, and impossible to stop at just one show," frontman Jeremy Oxley added.

Having reached a stage where they have nothing to prove except their penchant for partying on, Sunnyboys are having their best time on stage in decades, and that renewed sense of joy will undoubtedly lead these shows to join the pantheon of packed-out performances that have punctuated their resurgence, against all (their own) expectations.

"In the '80s, we burned out and the fun became hard work," drummer Bil Bilson explained. "The shows this time around have all been good fun, and the fan reactions incredible, so while ever that lasts, the band will."

Tickets for Sunnyboys' impending tour will go on sale from 9am AEDT next Tuesday, 24 October.
