Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley Is NOT The New Linkin Park Singer
After rumours took hold of the internet, Whibley wrote, "I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band, for that matter."

Over the weekend, beloved nu-metal band Linkin Park launched a mysterious countdown clock on their website and social media platforms.
The rumour mill has been churning since the countdown appeared, with many fans and curious onlookers speculating that the countdown will lead to an announcement about the band reuniting and playing shows with a new singer.
Linkin Park haven’t toured since singer Chester Bennington died by suicide in July 2017. However, the band did play a tribute show to him later that year, with Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley appearing as one of the guest singers (Whibley also pulled off a wicked rendition of Faint alongside Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda at Reading Festival in 2018).
Why exactly is the internet ablaze with rumours that Whibley could become the new singer of Linkin Park? Well, Linkin Park’s countdown and an announcement Whibley is set to make are supposed to arrive on the same day – today (or overnight for us Aussies).

In an effort to clear the air, Whibley took to social media and wrote, “I feel the need to dispel some current rumors [sic]. It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.”
He continued, “I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of [Sum 41’s farewell] U.S. tour. I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”
Fans can head to Linkin Park’s socials and website tomorrow at approximately 4:15 am AEST to find out what happens at the end of the countdown.
Earlier this year, Whibley announced the release of his debut memoir, Walking Disaster, which he describes as a “candid memoir of punk rock, fame, and endurance.” The memoir will be released via Gallery Books on Tuesday, 8 October.
Last week, it was announced that Sum 41, along with Korn, Violent Femmes, and many others, would be heading to Australia this December for Good Things Festival.
Sum 41 will be appearing with their last-ever Tour Of The Setting Sum tour in Australia. The tour will celebrate the popular albums All Killer No Filler (2001), Does This Look Infected? (2002), Chuck (2004), and their recent Heaven :x: Hell double-LP. Sum 41 are set to disband in 2025.
