Stevie Nicks Performs Emotional Tribute To Christine McVie

Stevie Nicks has performed a heartwarming rendition of Landslide in a tribute to her late Fleetwood Mac bandmate and 'best friend in the whole world" Christine McVie. 

Touring with Billy Joel as a part of a co-headline tour, Nicks reached the end of her 16-song set, performing the band's major hit Landslide and dedicating the song to McVie as pictures of the two friends flashed on the screen behind her. Concertgoers noted that Nicks struggled to get the last of the lyrics out as she shed a tear.

"There's really not much to say. We just will pretend that she's still here. That's how I'm trying to deal with it. Thank you for listening." she said before closing the show, as reported by Nine. 

It's the first time that Nicks has publically spoken out about the tragedy since McVie's death. 

Christine McVie, singer, songwriter, and pianist in Fleetwood Mac, passed away last year on the 30th of November at age 79.

Her family posted a statement to Facebook that read: "On behalf of Christine McVie's family, it is with a heavy heart we are informing you of Christine's death.

"She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family's privacy at this extremely painful time and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally. RIP Christine McVie."

She joined the band in 1970 and was still with the group when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1998, but departed soon after. She returned to Fleetwood Mac in 2014 with the band's most recognisable lineup reunited. 

At the time, Stevie Nicks wrote a handwritten note in a touching tribute to her bandmate. "A few hours ago I was told that my best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975 had passed away."

She added, "I didn’t even know she was ill… until late Saturday night. I wanted to be in London; I wanted to get to London — but we were told to wait. So, since Saturday, one song has been swirling around in my head, over and over and over. I thought I might possibly get to sing it to her, and so, I’m singing it to her now. I always knew I would need these words one day."

Nicks went on to write the lyrics to Hallelujah by HAIM. She concluded the note by writing, "See you on the other side, my love. Don’t forget me — Always, Stevie."
