Steel Panther Pay Tribute To '80s Metal Icons On New Single

Steel Panther are making music in the wrong era. At least, that's the impression you get when listening to their new single, 1987, with its callbacks to '80s heavy metal icons and a melody ripped straight from '80s rock radio.

1987 is the latest single from the band's soon-to-be-released sixth album, On The Prowl, which comes out on Friday, 24 February 2023.

Satchel (lead guitar), Michael Starr (lead vocals), Stix Zadinia (drums), and Spyder (bass) pay homage to the year's icons, including Guns N’ Roses, Poison, Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne, and Van Halen to name a few. 

The music video sees two teens wander into a basement, discover the band's latest guitar pedal named after the song, and immediately get transported to the year 1987, where Steel Panther are recording the track.

Steel Panther have ventured into the musical instrument space with the successful release of three guitar pedals: Pu**y Melter, Poontang Boomerang and Butthole Burner. The band returns with another must-have piece of gear – the 1987 pedal, which costs just $198.70.

We recently spoke with vocalist Michael Starr, who discussed getting back on the road after COVID restrictions, Van Halen, Lexxi Foxx, and more. 

While Starr and his bandmates eventually got used to not touring for so long, they didn't realise how much they would miss it. "We went to Europe for five weeks recently, and man, that connection with the audience. All four of us were like, 'This is the best thing in the world.' It's way better than cocaine. Even the best cocaine can't duplicate that feeling. When I connect with people on stage, I get a feeling; I'm gonna sound corny right now, but it makes me feel grateful to be singing for everybody, being in Steel Panther and fuckin' rockin'."
