Spotify Implements Major Change To Platform Following Adele Release

The way we consume music is frequently changing, but to some, the album format is still just as sacred as ever.

Adele falls into this category and upon the release of her highly anticipated new album, 30, on Friday, she made that very clear to Spotify, requesting the streaming giant remove the “shuffle” button from album pages by default, so that fans can listen to albums as artists intended.

And well, it worked.

Shuffle still remains an option for users, however, by default albums now play through.

According to Variety, a Spotify spokesperson said: “As Adele mentioned, we are excited to share that we have begun rolling out a new Premium feature that has been long requested by both users and artists to make ‘play’ the default button on all albums.

“For those users still wishing to shuffle an album, they can go to the Now Playing View and select the ‘shuffle’ toggle. As always, we will continue to iterate our products and features to create the best experiences for both artists and their fans.”

In response to the victory, Adele tweeted, “This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry! We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason. Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening.”

The album is receiving rave reviews from the media, but one Aussie outlet has found themselves in a bit of an embarrassing situation after a TV host decided to interview the singer BEFORE listening to the album.

As news.com.au reports, Weekend Sunrise host Matt Doran was suspended due to the incident in which he admitted to the singer that he hadn’t listened to the new album yet.

To make matters worse, Doran was specifically flown to London to film what would be Adele’s only Australian TV interview as part of a reported $1 million deal and the singer’s label pulled the plug, meaning Channel 7 were left with nothing.
