Spiritbox Score Custom 'Eternal Blue' Nintendo Switch Controller

As Spiritbox celebrated the second anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album, Eternal Blue, on Sunday (17 September), they revealed that they have a new surprise in store.

Teaming up with American video game distributor Hyperkin, Spiritbox have scored Eternal Blue-inspired controllers and a case for Nintendo Switch users. The artwork resembles the swirling blue and black album cover and has the symbols for numerous songs on the album – Constance, Sun Killer, Silk The Strings and Hurt You – inked into the artwork in white.

Only revealing that the controllers and case will be available “this holiday season”, the band wrote on Twitter, “Today feels like a fun day to let you see a project we have been working on with Hyperkin that will be available this holiday season.” You can check out the photos of their collaboration with Hyperkin below.

At the time of writing, we don’t know how limited the Spiritbox x Hyperkin collaboration will be, but hopefully, the controllers and cases can be sent to Australia once orders open.

Last month, Spiritbox announced that they’re dropping a new EP, The Fear Of Fear, and unveiled the single Jaded. The Fear Of Fear arrives on Friday, 3 November, via Rise Records/Pale Chord.

The Fear Of Fear holds six songs and follows the meteoric success Spiritbox built after releasing Eternal Blue and the surprise three-track EP Rotoscope. You can pre-order or pre-save The Fear Of Fear here.

Along with the previously released singles The Void and Jaded, the latter of which arrived with the EP announcement, The Fear Of Fear will contain the tracks Cellar Door, Too Close / Too Late, Angel Eyes and Ultraviolet.

“Proving once again that this band simply doesn’t miss, Jaded is loaded with mighty guitar riffs, Josh Gilbert’s bass threatening to start a breakdown at a moment’s notice, and seamless singing-to-screaming vocal delivery from Courtney LaPlante,” Kill Your Stereo commented about the band’s latest single.

After its release, LaPlante explained about The Void: "The Void is a song that came about very quickly. I didn’t have to fight with anything to write it, and when that happens, I don’t argue with it. 

“It’s a type of song that I’ve been wanting to write for a long time. I’ve heard it hundreds of times now, and it makes me so happy every time I hear it. It’s been such an amazing experience playing this song on our tour and watching people hear it for the first time in real-time.”

The EP announcement followed a July 2023 Kerrang! interview where LaPlante teased that “everyone will be pleasantly surprised this year” when asked about new music.
