Soundgarden, Audioslave Re-enter Aus Charts Following Chris Cornell’s Tragic Death

The music of US rock icon Chris Cornell has surged back onto the ARIA Charts a week after his tragic passing with two albums making the top 10.

The news of Cornell’s death sent shockwaves across the globe that have resulted in a number of Soundgarden, Audioslave and solo hits re-appearing on the Albums Chart.

After peaking at #1 in 1994, Soundgarden’s Superunknown has surged back up the charts to claim #7, next to Audioslave's 2002 self-titled debut record, which now sits at #8.

Cornell's 2011 live album, Songbook (#21), and last solo record, Higher Truth (#46), have also re-entered the Albums Chart, alongside another two Audioslave releases - Out Of Exile (#58) and Revelations (#76).

Unsurprisingly, it was Soundgarden who had the biggest impact across Aus Music Charts, as Badmotorfinger (#27), King Animal (#33), compilation A-Sides (#47) all cracked the top 50 while Telephantasm and Down On The Upside also received a bump.

Over on the Singles Chart, Soundgarden's 1994 megahit Black Hole Sun and Audioslave favourite Like A Stone have re-appeared.

Temple Of The Dog's self-titled 1991 album has also debuted on the Albums Chart at #56.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran-mania continues to grip the nation as the UK artist’s ÷ (Divide) reclaims its spot at #1 amid show additions to his 2018 Australian tour, dethroning last week’s #1 debut album from Harry Styles, which now sits at #2.

As predicted, Linkin Park's One More Light have come in at #3, with the next highest debut coming from local favourites Pierce Brothers, who exceeded expectations with The Records Were Ours and cracked the top 10 to claim #9.

Other debuts on the Albums Chart come from Papa Roach’s Crooked Teeth (#18), Rascal Flatts’ Back To Us (#24) and DragonForce with Reaching Into Infinity (#35).
