Slash Is Waiting On A Call From The Angels

Guitar legend Slash is waiting to hear from Aussie rockers The Angels for a forthcoming collaboration.

In a far-reaching cover story interview with The Music, the guitarist discussed working with his bandmates, Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, touring Australia, and his Australian inspirations; Slash revealed that he was asked to be a part of a greatest hits album for The Angels.

“The Angels were great,” Slash told The Music while discussing the few bands he enjoyed in the 80s. “And I guess they're still sort of around.

“I talked to one of the original members recently, and they were going to do some sort of greatest hits record or something like that and asked if I'm interested and seeing if I wanted to play on it, but I haven't heard from them since.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Slash talked about AC/DC’s Angus and Malcolm Young and their influence on his guitar playing.

“Angus and Malcolm, guitar-wise, have been and always will be a couple of my favourites,” he said before revealing one of his favourite bands of the 80s: “Believe it or not, in the ‘80s, I really did think that INXS was one of the best pop bands that came out of anywhere.

“I especially hated the ‘80s back then [laughs], so there were very few artists that I liked, but I did like INXS.”

Guns N’ Roses previously paid tribute to The Angels in 2014, cranking out a rocking version of the band’s 1978 song Marseilles following singer Doc Neeson’s passing. Axl Rose said at the time, “This one’s for Doc… from The Angels to the angels.”

The current Angels line-up includes two sets of Brewster Brothers – the OGs (John and Rick) on guitar and John Brewster’s sons, Sam (bass) and Tom (drums), as well as former drummer Nick Norton on vocals. Their previous vocalist, The Screaming Jets’ Dave Gleeson, departed the band last May.

This month, Slash, Kennedy and The Conspirators return to Australia for a string of arena shows – their first tour Down Under in five years.

The tour begins at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Thursday, 22 February, followed by Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Saturday, 24 February, Brisbane’s Riverstage on Sunday, 25 February, and finally Melbourne’s John Cain Arena on Tuesday, 27 February.
