'I Am Not Playing That Song': The Hit Track The Simple Plan Guitarist Wanted To Cut

Simple Plan boast a stack of hit tracks across their 20-year career but there was one song in particular band member Jeff Stinco wanted axed from the band's set list for a period of time. 

Joining The Green Room with Neil Griffiths podcast backstage at Good Things Festival in Sydney, Stinco revealed there was a phase where he pushed for the Canadian pop-punkers to stop performing fan-favourite 2002 song, I'm Just A Kid.

"I'm like, 'I am not playing that song' and the guys were like, 'Dude, come on,'" Stinco told host Neil Griffiths.

The 41-year-old guitarist continued, "It's hard to tell what the other guys were thinking but I remember being very verbal about it, you know?

"I was just like, 'I think we're making better music now and we should focus on the newer stuff and, kind of, move forward instead of going back.'

"Then I remember one moment where I went to see a Radiohead show and they would not play Creep. I was like, 'Arseholes!' Like, what's wrong with you people? I bought my ticket just for that, you know? Then I realised I don't want to be that guy.

"I think people want to see the best songs of your catalogue. You have to give it to people."

Stinco also confirmed that Simple Plan will aim to finish recording a new album in January before they embark on a UK tour in February.
