Roger Waters Calls Bono 'Disgusting' And An 'Enormous Sh*t'

Roger Waters has fired at U2 singer Bono in a new interview, labelling him as “disgusting” and “an enormous shit” for statements made on the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Waters took aim at Bono for a speech the Sunday Bloody Sunday singer made on stage following the 7 October attacks from Hamas on Israel.

Before launching into Pride (In The Name Of Love), Bono said, “On the light of what’s happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about non-violence seems somewhat ridiculous, even laughable, but our prayers have always been for peace and for non-violence. But our hearts and our anger, you know where that’s pointed. So sing with us… and those beautiful kids at that music festival.”

He changed the lyrics to the classic, singing, “Early morning, Oct. 7; the sun is rising in the desert sky… Stars of David, they took your life, but they could not take your pride.”

It’s worth noting that on 18 February, Bono addressed the Palestinian lives lost – according to a recent NPR report, over 25,000 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the war on 7 October.

“It’s bewildering to see the suffering of the Palestinian children after witnessing the suffering of the Israeli children,” he said on the weekend. U2 then launched into an acoustic version of Peace On Earth.

However, Waters’ comments towards Bono came before the U2 vocalist showed solidarity with suffering Palestinians, and he didn’t hold back.

In a 17 February interview with Al Jazeera, Waters addressed Bono’s previous speech on the conflict like so: “Anybody who knows Bono should go and pick him up by his ankles and shake him… until he stops being an enormous shit.”

He continued, “We have to start saying to these people, your opinion is so disgusting and so degrading… sticking up for the Zionist entity. What he did a couple of weeks ago in the Sphere in Las Vegas, singing about the Stars of David, was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Roger Waters has long expressed his views on Palestine and supported the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, attracting controversy and claims of antisemitism.

Last February, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, accused Waters of being “antisemitic to [his] rotten core”, with Gilmour concurring, “every word [is] demonstrably true”.

Waters called the allegations “incendiary and wildly inaccurate” and said he “refutes [them] entirely”.

In September, the Campaign Against Antisemitism released the documentary The Dark Side Of Roger Waters, which accused the musician of antisemitic conduct. Waters denied the allegations.
