'We're Gonna Do That Well Into Our 80s': The Future Of 'It's Always Sunny' Is Looking Good

We know that It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia will turn out at least four more seasons, but according to star and creator Rob McElhenney they'll be doing the US comedy series for many more years to come.

Appearing on a new episode of The Green Room With Neil Griffiths podcast alongside Australian star Charlotte Nicdao to promote the second season of AppleTV+'s Mythic Quest, McElhenney assured fans that the future of It's Always Sunny - which also stars Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito - is safe.

"There's gonna be plenty more seasons of that," McElhenney told podcast host Neil Griffiths.

"Yeah, we're gonna do that well into our 80's. That's just the kind of show that lends itself to making it forever because it's a reset at the end of each episode. 

"The characters start 'here' and then they go all the way in a giant circle and they end right back where they started.

"So, there is no growth. There is no learning. There is no evolution.

"They're always just the pieces of garbage that we started with. So we can continually reset with garbage for the next four, five, six, 20, 25 years - as long as people keep watching it."

It's Always Sunny will become the longest-running US live-action comedy series when it returns for its 15th season.
