The remaining three dates on The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s current Australian tour – one in Castlemaine last night, the Northcote Theatre tonight and the University of Wollongong UniBar tomorrow night, have been cancelled on “medical grounds”.

Punters received emails about the cancelled dates yesterday. On the Moshtix ticket page for the band’s Northcote Theatre show, a statement reads:

The Brian Jonestown Massacre regretfully informs ticket holders that the concert scheduled for Thursday, 23rd November, at the Northcote Theatre has been cancelled on medical grounds.

You don’t need to do anything; your ticket(s) will be automatically refunded back to your credit card/PayPal account, and we’ll let you know when this has been done. It can take up to 3-5 business days for the funds to return to your account.

If your card details have changed, please wait for Moshtix to contact you directly regarding this. If you're unable to see the refund in your account after five business days, please contact your financial institution before contacting Moshtix.

The final three shows were cancelled after the band’s gig at Melbourne’s Forum ended in blows on Tuesday (21 November).

Band founder Anton Newcombe and guitarist Ryan Van Kriedt brawled at the end of the show, with one member allegedly attempting to swing a guitar at the other before the pair wrestled each other to the ground. Forum staff activated the venue’s security curtain as the fight broke out.

Attendees reportedly “Lost almost half a Brian Jonestown Massacre gig to incoherent rambling”, with users on the Melbourne-dedicated Reddit forum writing that The Brian Jonestown Massacre “only played seven or so songs”, and the show was “disjointed, disorganised and chaotic”.

Another fan who had seen the band six times claimed they’d “never seen anything like this”. Other fans in the Melbourne subreddit said that last night’s incident was “typical” at a Brian Jonestown Massacre concert. “You got the proper BJM experience. Be thankful!!” another said.

Following the announcement of the cancelled shows, fans in the Brian Jonestown Massacre subreddit said they’re “glad” the remainder of the tour has been cancelled. They added, “I hope Anton is getting the medical help he clearly needs. The rest of the band must be so emotionally drained from this tour.. Feel bad for the fans in Australia, but it’s not worth it to see this shit show.”

Following the incident on Tuesday night, The Music reached out to representatives for The Brian Jonestown Massacre for comment.
