Guardians Of The Galaxy director/writer James Gunn gets so excited about his movies that he often starts leaking information ahead of time.
In December, he hinted at making a “good” third film to cap off the final instalment of the Guardians series and said about the soundtrack: “I worked twice as hard on this soundtrack as I did on both the first two soundtracks combined.”
Today, Gunn unveiled the soundtrack a month from the film’s 4 May release date. “The #GotGVol3 soundtrack is now live. Listen to the music before seeing the film in theaters [sic] on May 5,” the mastermind behind the films tweeted today. He also provided a Spotify playlist with the entire soundtrack.
An acoustic version of Radiohead’s breakthrough debut single, Creep, plays at the start of the movie. Gunn explained that decision in an interview with Rolling Stone, “It doesn’t start with Mr Blue Sky [like Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2],” he began.
“It doesn’t start with Come And Get Your Love [like the first movie]. It starts with Radiohead’s acoustic version of Creep. And that’s just a much different tone from the beginning than the other two films.”
The soundtrack also features Badlands by Bruce Springsteen, Heart’s Crazy On You, Dog Days Are Over by Florence + The Machine, No Sleep Till Brooklyn by Beastie Boys, Spacehog’s In The Meantime (which plays in the movie trailer), and more.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 led a whopping 35% increase in cassette sales; Billboard proved in a 2017 report.
The soundtrack for Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2, was the largest-selling cassette of the year, with 19,000 copies sold. It was closely followed by the original Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack, at 15,000 sales, and the soundtrack to the animated Guardians Of The Galaxy TV show came in with 5,000 sales.
While the numbers are small compared to other album sales, the niche market continues to grow, with an additional 45,000 cassettes purchased in 2017 compared to the previous year.
According to the Nielsen Music cassette sales chart, the Stranger Things soundtrack came in at #4 with 3,000 sales, Eminem's The Eminem Show at #5 with 3,000, the Hamilton musical soundtrack at #6 with 3,000, and Prince's Purple Rain soundtrack at #7 with 2,000 sales.
