Quiet Aussie Export RY X On Verge Of Euro Break-out

Few may be familiar with Los Angeles-based RY X, but the indie songwriter is threatening to be Australia's next major breakout with his latest track Berlin.

The title track from his quietly-released EP, Berlin is up to 38 on the UK singles chart this week after four weeks and, after landing his first triple j spin last night, is as high as 93 on the Australian iTunes album chart today. It has received a full add to triple j's playlist today.

The New South Wales south coast-born muso moved to Los Angeles at the turn of the decade, performing under his full name Ry Cuming. After moderate success – including touring with Maroon 5 after appearing on the Hoot soundtrack – with his 'acoustic-surf' vibe he has since reinvented himself as the atmospheric indie-leaning RY X.

Berlin, the EP, was first released in August this year by Swedish imprint Dumont Dumont and he's now signed a label deal with Infectious Music, home to Alt-J, Local Natives and The Temper Trap. It is available locally now through Liberator Music/Infectious Music.

The title track was recently picked up for a European Sony TV ad, which has been airing in the UK, France and Germany since the beginning of November.

In France the track was up to 23 on the singles chart as of late November with an estimated 2,000 weekly sales, while in Germany the track has been as high 53.

The video clip for Berlin was released in March and has recently ticked over one million views.

He is managed by the Red Light Management group, who boast Alicia Keys, Ben Harper, Alabama Shakes and Tim McGraw amongst others on their roster. He is booked by The Agency Group in the UK and Europe and the Windish Agency in the US. Outside of having the Australian release through Liberation, there are currently no Australian representatives listed.

He is spending the first days of December playing shows in France, the UK and Germany.
