Influential psychedelic rock band, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, will return to Australian shores in November, performing ten dates across the country in support of their 20th album, The Future Is Your Past, released in February 2023. How can you not admire a band with that kind of work ethic?
However, The Brian Jonestown Massacre won’t only be playing the new tunes; they know what fans want to hear – recent setlists still include Their Satanic Majesties’ Second Request’s Anemone, A World from the self-titled LP, Nightbird from Revelation, Nevertheless and Sailor from Bravery Repetition And Noise, and more.
Led by the singular vision of Anton Newcombe and a revolving door of impressive musicians, The Brian Jonestown Massacre have delivered an unrelenting schedule of recorded output, 20 studio albums, 14 EPs, five live albums, six compilation albums and 22 singles, with most released independently through the band’s A Records.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s upcoming Australian tour is their first run down under since June 2018, after Newcombe said he mightn’t ever perform in the country again.
After the band’s show at the Metro Theatre in Sydney, Newcombe came under fire following a controversial and insensitive joke he made while on stage.
As a result of the comment, a fan started a petition for the rest of the band’s tour to be axed. In response to the petition, the US songwriter claimed he “never made light of rape culture” and was being attacked by two men in the audience.

A few days later, Newcombe took to Twitter and wrote, “I don't think i will return to Australia. i'm fine with it.”
The band’s 2023 Australian tour begins at Hobart’s Odeon Theatre on Saturday, 11 November, before journeying to Perth’s Astor Theatre, The Gov in Adelaide, the Enmore in Sydney, Byron Bay’s The Northern, Brisbane’s Princess Theatre, Kambri Anu in Canberra, the Forum in Melbourne, the Theatre Royal in Castlemaine, and finally wrapping up at Wollongong’s Unibar.
