"I think it’s going to fuck up our countries."
With Canadian political punks Propagandhi headed down to Australia at the end of the month, frontman Chris Hannah has expressed concerns about the political state of the country.
Known for their strong left-wing politics, the band often educate themselves on a country before heading there – an exercise that didn't sit too well with Hannah this time around.
“You just had another shift to the right in your electoral political system and [Canada] has been there for a number of years now. When I see things shifting towards a 'conservative right', it worries me,” Hannah told theMusic.com.au.
“I feel like you're going down the same path we are and it's not necessarily the way that is going to benefit future generations…it's almost like our countries are leading the way in a race to the bottom in terms of appealing to base human overreactions, and base human prejudice, and I think it's going to fuck up our countries.”

With Australia and Canada colonised in a similar way, Hannah believed the first step to fixing both countries was to seek fair retribution for those displaced from their homes.
“We're just doubling down on the stupidity, instead of trying to come to terms with our history and instead of being realistic about what's going to happen seven generations from now – what's going to be left.
“Everybody's getting rich in the short term with oil and that sort of thing, but what's going to be left? There's going to be no drinkable water, there's going to be no land up there that's inhabitable, it's crazy – just short-term gain craziness that people of a conservative mindset seem to chronically pursue at the peril of their own society and it's so frustrating to watch it unfold.”
Propagandhi kick off their Australian tour 29 May at Corner Hotel before spreading their message around the rest of the country.
