Victoria’s 17-day ALWAYS LIVE program, which celebrates live music in central and regional hubs, has grown again with its ten-day free SoundBox pop-up live music studio heading to Melbourne’s CBD.
ALWAYS LIVE runs from 24 November until 10 December, and with the addition of the SoundBox program, over 350 local, national and international acts are performing across the state as part of more than 65 distinct events.
Across ten days at Melbourne’s Arts Centre forecourt, SoundBox’s free live performances, artist interviews, showcases, songwriting sessions, unique broadcasts and more will take over a bustling precinct in the city.
Leading the SoundBox program are Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett, Alex Lahey, rapper Illy, Holy Holy, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers, Ruby Fields, UK star General Levy, R&B stars Miss Kaninna and Jerome Farah, 12-piece Sunshine And Disco Faith Choir, Rebecca Black, pop-punk outfit Slowly Slowly, and even more.
Apart from performances, SoundBox will host a launch event entitled Blak Out Day on Friday, 24 November, with Airileke x Yidaki, Bandok Tati, Brother Nelson, Brothers in Arms, Caution, Izy, Jahmal Yami, Tamala Shelton, and Waari hosting a day of First Nations artist interviews and performances. The day will be broadcast on 3KND.
Other highlights include first-look peeks at the music industry offered by Kira Piru, putting on an event called KIRA-Oke, punk icons Amyl & The Sniffers and Cosmic Psychos will meet in raucous conversation, Clementine Ford will host Taylor Made Karaoke (a tribute to Taylor Swift), Mushroom Records will have a celebratory event for its 50th anniversary, Beijing-born Melbourne based DJ Moopie will perform, and Jessie Ware will appear at SoundBox, as well as her Summer Camp Festival headlining slot and ALWAYS LIVE show at Victoria by Farmers Daughters.
