James McCartney and Sean Ono Lennon—the sons of two Beatles icons, Paul McCartney and John Lennon—have teamed up to write and release a song together.
Primrose Hill is the latest song to be dropped by James McCartney, who announced the collaboration on Instagram, writing:
Primrose Hill is here! Today I am so very excited to share my latest song co-written by my good friend Sean Ono Lennon. With the release of this song, it feels like we’re really getting the ball rolling, and I am so excited to continue to share music with you.
A moving ballad driven by an acoustic guitar and McCartney’s gentle vocal, Primrose Hill slowly opens up to include a drum that sounds like a foot stomp, tenderly unfolding like a timeless folk tune. Like some fans have noted, it’s the first Lennon and McCartney collaboration in over 50 years. You can listen to the song below.

In addition to releasing the single, James McCartney has kickstarted a video contest for Primrose Hill, allowing fans to get involved and tell their stories to his song.
The video contest is open to couples of all ages, with the deadline closing this Friday at midnight EST. Your video must be one to three minutes long and “capture the essence of love and romance while showcasing the beauty of the couple's favourite romantic location”. You can find out more about the competition and submit your video here.
As NME reports, James McCartney released his first new song since 2016 in February.
In November, The Beatles released Now And Then—a song written by John Lennon in 1978 that was touted as a Beatles “reunion” track in 1995.
Now And Then was written and sung by Lennon, worked on by bandmates Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison and completed by McCartney and Starr—with the help of AI—four decades later.
“There it was, John’s voice, crystal clear,” Paul McCartney commented in a press release. “It’s quite emotional. And we all play on it; it’s a genuine Beatles recording. In 2023, to still be working on Beatles music and about to release a new song the public haven’t heard, I think it’s an exciting thing.”
Sean Ono Lennon added, “It was incredibly touching to hear them working together after all the years that Dad had been gone. It’s the last song my dad, Paul, George and Ringo got to make together. It’s like a time capsule, and all feels very meant to be.”
