If you’re a Silverchair fan, you enjoyed part one of A Silver Lining – the highly anticipated Australian Story starring Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou – you have no choice but to tune in live to watch part two tonight.
The Silver Lining episodes of Australian Story have been pulled from ABC iView, meaning that the only way fans can watch part two of Gillies and Joannou’s story is live on ABC at 8 pm tonight. At the time of writing, part one has been removed from ABC iView and the ABC News In-depth YouTube channel.
According to a recent Daily Telegraph report, Daniel Johns – who wasn’t interviewed in the two Australian Story episodes – and his music industry brother Heath, who is in charge of the singer’s business affairs, allegedly gave permission for Silverchair songs to be used on the ABC, but not for its streaming service, iView.
“In this second episode of the Silverchair story, the hit rock band from Newcastle is back at the top of the charts with a new album and hit single Straight Lines,” a press release about A Silver Lining part two reads.

On last week’s episode of A Silver Lining, Gillies detailed the “acute psychotic break” he experienced during the band’s Diorama sessions.
The mental health impact of the Diorama sessions led Gillies to embrace extra marijuana usage, leading to a scary experience he opened up about on Australian Story.
“I’d never experienced that before,” he said about his marijuana use, which grew to multiple times a day. “I just started feeling like I was losing grip a little bit. Not on reality, but I couldn’t control it.”
After being offered his first ecstasy tablet, Gillies felt he had been “pushed over the edge”. “I had what I know now was an acute psychotic break. It was really, really scary. I thought I was going crazy.”
Also during their Australian Story episode, Joannou discussed health issues, including cancer and a heart attack, following Silverchair’s disbandment. Gillies also reflected on the group’s unhealthy drinking culture and discussed Johns’ anorexia.
Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou are promoting their new tell-all memoir, Love & Pain.
The book will be released via Hatchette Australia on Wednesday, 27 September.
You can watch part two of Gillies and Joannou’s Australian Story on ABC at 8 pm tonight.
