Parkway Drive’s Winston McCall Joins Architects At Graspop For ‘Impermanence’ Debut

Architects and Parkway Drive both performed at this year’s Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium, giving fans of both bands the chance to finally see one of the greatest metalcore collabs of all time – Parkway screamer Winston McCall on Architects’ song Impermanence – performed live in its original form the first time ever.

Moshlords around the world first heard Impermanence on Architects’ ninth album, For Those That Wish To Exist, which arrived in February of 2021. It features McCall at his brooding best, delivering a sharp walloping of vocal barbs right before the breakdown: “Even the doomed refuse, we were born to lose / Do you really wanna live forever? / ’Cause those afraid to die will never truly live…”

Architects have played Impermanence live on a few occasions – exactly 40, according to setlist.fm – but since Parkway Drive have their own jam-packed touring calendar, McCall has never been able to stand in for the performance. But alas, the two iconic bands’ paths finally crossed last Saturday (June 17) and Belgian fans got to enjoy a powerful moment of metalcore history in the making.

Architects are currently touring the world in support of their tenth album, The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit, which arrived in October of 2022. They toured it in Australia back in February of this year, making headlines around the world when a heckler in Kaurna/Adelaide rushed the stage and attempted to attack guitarist Josh Middleton. Middleton himself would end up leaving Architects in May.

Parkway Drive, on the other hand, are still going strong on the touring cycle for Darker Still, their seventh album, which landed in September of last year. They recently announced a US tour featuring The Amity Affliction, Northlane and Make Them Suffer, proving once and for all that Australian metalcore is, in fact, the world’s best.
