The nominees for the 2022 ARIA Awards for 'Best Hard Rock/Heavy Album' and 'Best Rock Album' showcase what a stellar year it was for Aussie rock music.
The nominees for the 2022 ARIA Awards were revealed today and with the exception of breakthrough pub-punks Amyl and The Sniffers staggering six nominations, the focus of most heavy music fans was on the categories Best Hard Rock/Heavy Album and Best Rock Album.
The Best Hard Rock/Heavy album category is set to see Sydney metalcore monoliths Northlane (Obsidian)battle it out with Melbourne alt-metalcore act Thornhill (Heroine), NZ hard rock icons Shihad (Old Gods), Brisbane alt-indie act Dune Rats (Real Rare Whale) and Sunshine Coast punks The Chats (Get Fucked).
The Best Rock Album category will see the aforementioned Amy and The Sniffers (Comfort To Me) fight it out with Brisbane indie-rockers Ball Park Music (Weirder & Weirder), Sydney alt-rockers Gang Of Youths (Angel In Realtime), Northeast Arnhem Land rockers King Stingray (King Stingray) and Fremantle indie rockers Spacey Jane (Here Comes Everybody) for the right to be called an ARIA Award winner.
A celebration of the best in homegrown music, the 2022 ARIA Awards will feature 27 categories and will take place on Thursday, 24 November at The Hordern Pavilion on Gadigal land. The awards will be co-hosted by eight-time ARIA Awards-winner, Aussie-born international icon Natalie Imbruglia, and internationally loved singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi.
