Nicki Minaj Calls Out Australian Cartoonist For Controversial Serena Williams Cartoon

A host of celebrity figures, including Nicki Minaj, have called out Herald Sun cartoonist Mark Knight for his controversial cartoon (shown below via Twitter) depicting tennis player Serena Williams after the US Open final. 

On an episode of her Beats 1 show Queen Radio airing earlier today, Minaj gave her “Cocksucker Of The Day” award to Knight.

"Every time a black woman says they don't agree with something going on in their own career, job, workplace, they get labelled as angry. They get labelled as a troublemaker or having a meltdown,” she said.

"Black women are no longer allowed to say that they are being unfairly treated without being told that they're on drugs, that they're having a meltdown, they're a sore loser, that they're bitter, miserable. Give me a fucking break.”

Minaj then went on to name Knight and shared his Twitter handle to listeners. 

"I want to name the cartoonist that did this,” she began. 

"You drew this woman trying to be funny or trying to make fun of her or some shit like, are you out of your fucking mind?

"We are not allowing this done to our own anymore. It has to stop. She demonstrated grace. She demonstrated passion. There is a difference between passion and a fucking meltdown. Why the fuck is everyone allowed to be passionate but black women? Why? Give me a break.”

She ended the segment by urging her followers not to tear Knight down.

"And Barbz please this is not about tearing this man down, because I don't want to do that. I just want to know why did you...draw a picture of this legend in our community, making her look like this. Like some sort of an animal having a temper tantrum.”

Knight has responded to other critics in an interview on Melbourne’s 3AW radio but is yet to address the comments from Minaj. “It’s a cartoon about poor behaviour. It’s nothing to do with race,” he said earlier today.

Minaj will be in the country early next year for FOMO festival.
