Nickelback Give Lizzo Free Invites To Their Shows After She Praised Their Music

After taking on the most well-known Rammstein hit, Du Hast, in February, Lizzo’s enthusiasm for another rock band has emerged. This time, it’s Nickelback.

In February, the Good As Hell singer had just learned the word “Oma,” which is German for grandmother (or granny, according to Google Translate). Lizzo then repeated her new favourite word before blasting into Du Hast.

She mimicked vocalist Till Lindemann’s choreography during the little performance - hands in fists, swinging in a marching beat - before exclaiming, “Oh, Hamburg, I’m having fun, bitch!” Check out the footage here.

Last week, Loudwire cited a 2019 interview where Lizzo defended Nickelback, who remain an incredibly divisive band amongst rock music fans.

When she was playing a game of Jam Or Not A Jam with CBC Music and the 2001 single How You Remind Me started, she said, “Why do people not like Nickelback? I think that this is a jam. It has a beautiful climax . . . everybody knows this melody... I think they get a lot of shit because [vocalist Chad Kroeger] had a curly blonde perm. That’s the only reason why they get shit ‘cause this is an amazing song.”

Nickelback saw a clip of Lizzo’s support and shared it on Instagram, inviting her to future shows. “Thank you Lizzo for the kind words,” the band wrote. “Open invite any show any time.. maybe see you in Houston this summer?”

The Canadian rock band's albums Silver Side Up, The Long Road, All The Right Reasons, Dark Horse, Here And Now, and No Fixed Address have reached platinum or multi-platinum status in Australia.

In October, Nickelback released the nostalgic tune Those Days, in support of their newest album, Get Rollin’.

Chad Kroeger namechecks Nightmare On Elm Street ("Remember when Elm Street came on / Couldn't watch it alone"), Prince ("Remember when they played 'Purple Rain' to our first slow dance"), Motorhead, and Guns N' Roses ("Remember Guns N' Roses came out we were standing in line / Remember front row at that show, camped out all night / Got so high Sweet Child O' Mine"), transporting listeners back to the '80s and to the sentimental Nickelback from 2005, who we all remember. Lizzo is making her Splendour In The Grass debut this July, headlining the festival alongside Flume and Mumford & Sons. 

Pop star Lewis Capaldi also appears on the line-up, with Yeah Yeah Yeahs returning after pulling out of last year’s festival. Hilltop Hoods will perform, Sam Fender will make his return after appearing at the 2019 event, and popular British punks IDLES are coming back after initially being included on the 2020 line-up.

J Balvin, Little Simz, Tove Lo, Slowthai, Noah Cyrus, and Arlo Parks will provide their brands of R&B and post-punk, making up a decent amount of exciting artists coming from overseas.

More locals are also appearing, such as prolific rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Ruel, Pnau, Peach PRC, Tkay Maidza, Dune Rats, Cub Sport, Jack River, The Smith Street Band, RVG, and many more taking the stages at Splendour.
