New Thy Art Singer: ‘I’m Sure You’re Wondering Who The F*ck I Am’

New footage of Thy Art Is Murder’s second show with new vocalist Tyler Miller (Aversions Crown) has surfaced on YouTube, with the singer directly addressing some fans’ concerns for the first time.

Performing at Poppodium 013 in Tilburg, the Netherlands, the band’s pre-show music was, hilariously, We Like To Party by the Vengaboys. Pretty different from the deathcore tunes coming soon after.

Three and a half minutes into the band’s set, Miller addressed the packed audience, telling the crowd, “I'm sure all of you are wondering who the fuck I am,” per a YouTube clip you can watch below.

He continued, “My name is Tyler Miller. Some of you may know who I am, some of you may not. If not, that's totally fine.”

After introducing himself, Miller was met with loud chants for former vocalist CJ McMahon.

In the 22-minute YouTube video shared by user Metal Fenrir, Thy Art Is Murder performed Join Me In Armageddon, Keres, Godlike, Bermuda, Destroyer Of Dreams, Everything Unwanted and Blood Throne from their new album, Godlike (in which Miller re-recorded CJ McMahon’s vocals for the digital release of the album), as well as beloved classics like Death Squad Anthem, Slaves Beyond Death, Reign Of Darkness, Holy War and more.

“We have some important news regarding Godlike that we want to share with you,” Thy Art Is Murder wrote last month.

The band initially said that the postponement of Godlike was due to “production delays”, but after reading their recent post, we know it’s due to McMahon’s replacement “finished re-recording vocals on the new album earlier this week”.

The band’s statement continued, “Our new album Godlike is now available worldwide digitally with an unforeseen change — Chris McMahon is no longer a part of Thy Art Is Murder and does not feature on the record.

“We understand that this may come as a surprise, and we want to assure you that this decision was made to preserve the band's integrity and direction.”

Referencing McMahon’s comment about a mother who “should be burned to death” for her acceptance of her child’s identity on Instagram, the band continued, “What transpired over the past month was not the cause of this action, but just another symptom of the drawn-out breakdown in his character and judgement.

“The straw that broke the camel's back, if you will. Long story short, the fallout has been immense. We were lobbed with threats to destroy Thy Art Is Murder from the inside if we did not capitulate to various ideologies that he holds.”

The band added, “Everyone has their own right to free speech and to seek their truth; they are also free to receive the consequences that come with it.”

Responding to the news of his dismissal, McMahon wrote in a brief Instagram statement, “I just woke up and saw the news. Yes this is how I found out. And yes it's not the whole story. I'll be going live tomorrow at 5pm Sydney Australia time. Burn everyone to death”.

Thy Art Is Murder performed their first show with Tyler Miller at the Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen on 27 September.
