Australia is about to receive a brand-new drum and bass festival, Distortion, offering up some of the biggest names in electronic, trap, house, dubstep and drum and bass music genres.
The inaugural Distortion Festival finds American DJ NGHTMRE making his return Down Under for the first time since 2019, headlining the festival following collaborations with Zhu, The Chainsmokers, A$AP Ferg, Tory Lanez, Oliver Tree, Dillon Francis and many more. English dubstep producer ZOMBOY, also returning to Australia for the first time since 2019, will headline alongside the US star.
Elsewhere on the line-up are a few more international heavy-hitters, including Moksi from Amsterdam's Barong Family record label, UK drum and bass artist Danny Byrd, and Australian electronic music duo Slumberjack. Closing the line-up are two other Aussies, DJ GODLANDS and music producer and event promoter Sammythesinner.
In a live review of GODLANDS at Hobart’s Uni Bar, The Music reviewer Hayley Tjon-Aloi proclaimed, “The guttural bass pulsated through bodies, percussion the driving force of her sound, jungle drums guiding us through the next song. Hip hop production sent listeners into a trance when suddenly a fresh drum track would pull us back out of it.”
Distortion is also unique for the venue it’s booked, with the event primed to take over Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Friday, 9 February, Brisbane’s Eaton Hills Outdoors on Saturday, 10 February, Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Friday, 16 February, and Perth’s Red Hill Auditorium on Saturday, 17 February.
