Music Vic's Program To Shut Down Those Pesky Noise Complaints To Venues Is Back

Music Victoria's widely-praised Good Music Neighbours program, which awards match grants of up to $25,000 to keep venues pumping out the tunes, is back.

Now in its third round, the program assists venues to improve their sound attenuation in order to cut down on the impact felt by surrounding businesses and homes.

"There’s a need for venues to be looked after when they’re under threat from people making noise complaints. It’s about looking after communities and neighbourhoods and live music," Good Music Neighbours industry liaison Shaun Adams told The Music.

"It’s probably not documented enough how hard it is to keep a venue alive these days, so to play some sort of small part in trying to make their jobs easier, then it’s awesome."

As a part of Daniel Andrews Labor Government’s $22 million Music Works package, the program has invested more than $500,000 into keeping Victoria’s live music scene thriving.

"It’s been pretty incredible and it’s probably not until it goes away that we’re going to recognise how good it’s been," Adams said

"We’re in a fortunate situation with someone that recognises live music in the state."

This round of grant applications are open now and close 5pm, Thursday 26 April. Adams encourages any music venue owner to have a crack at the grants.

"If anyone is in two minds lets chat about the issues that the venue has been facing. It doesn’t matter if it’s a big problem or a small problem, we just want to see people apply for it and continue doing what they do best," Adams said.
