Morrissey Cancels First Australian Show In Perth

Morrissey’s 40 Years of Morrissey Australian tour was due to begin on Friday (1 December) at the Concert Hall in Perth (Boorloo), but the show was abruptly cancelled on the day of the gig.

In a statement from Live Nation Australia, fans were informed that, “We regret to advise the Morrissey: 40 Years of Morrissey show scheduled for Friday 1 December at Perth Concert Hall will no longer be proceeding due to unforeseen logistical issues.”

A statement on the Perth Concert Hall website also details that ticketholders were contacted regarding ticketing options following the cancellation. The Music has reached out to Live Nation Australia for comment.

The tour will now kick off tonight at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne (Naarm).

From there, the Smiths frontman and solo artist is set to perform at Brisbane’s (Meanjin) Fortitude Music Hall on Friday (8 December), followed by another two-night performance at Sydney’s (Eora) State Theatre on Sunday and Monday (10 and 11 December).

In November, the This Charming Man singer reportedly cancelled four shows on his Asian tour run, with the WeHeartMusic blog claiming that Morrissey has cancelled, postponed or abbreviated 336 concerts across his long career.

Morrissey’s current tour, 40 Years Of Morrissey, promises sets that span “from the early days of The Smiths through to today”.

Morrissey most recently released 2020’s I Am Not A Dog On A Chain, which was supposed to be followed up earlier this year by an album called Bonfire Of Teenagers. The LP’s release was ultimately cancelled (or, as Morrissey himself claims, sabotaged) in February. Instead, he plans to release a different album, Without Music The World Dies, this year.
