#NotOn

More Halfway More Halfway

Brisbane's music community is banding together and raising its voice to speak out against violence against women in a newly announced fundraising show.

After the #NotOn campaign was launched by SUGARRUSH Music in 2015, the campaign is being relaunched this November with an event raising funds for the Women's Legal Service Queensland

To be held at The Triffid on 18 November, a number of Brissie bands have put their hands up and are donating their time and voices for the cause. Bands already confirmed include Halfway, Tape/Off and Tim Steward and Kellie Lloyd (Screamfeeder).

Speaking about the event, WLSW CEO Angela Lynch said, "This event will make an absolute life changing difference to the women and their kids that we will be able to help."

"Legal advice is vital to safety.  The women we see can’t afford a private lawyer and don’t qualify for legal aide. They often have no other place to go. We encourage everyone to come along, see some fantastic talent while helping women and their kids live free from violence.”

#NotOn coordinator Deb Suckling has announced the event will also see the return of the iconic t-shirts. “Long term, our dream would be to have every live music venue in the country outfitted with these t-shirts to not only highlight the horrific statistics in this country, but deliver the message that this ongoing culture of violence has to end,” she said.

“If seeing the shirt makes even one person rethink their behaviour, that is a win.

“We are so grateful for the support of the music community to get this show up and running, and particularly grateful to the male artists involved who have a true desire to speak out and lead from the front on this.”
