Denys Mallet, a 40-year-old man from New Brunswick, was arrested after allegedly making death threats against Lana Del Rey. He appeared in a Quebec court earlier this month.
CTV News reported that Quebec City Police received a complaint against Mallet on 29 June and subsequently started investigating. Mallet was arrested before Del Rey’s appearance at the Festival d’été de Québec this month.
Mallet allegedly “knowingly made threats to cause death or bodily harm” to Lana Del Rey between 1 January 2022 and 6 July 2023, per the Quebec City Police indictment.
In October 2022, Del Rey faced a different danger to her career after songs recorded for her ninth album, Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, a 200-page manuscript she was writing for Simon & Schuster - which wasn't backed up - a bunch of hard drives, and three camcorders filled with family home videos were stolen from her car.
"Please don't listen to the music if you hear it because it's not coming out yet," she pleaded with fans. Two months later, Del Rey announced her ninth album.
The follow-up to her 2021 records Chemtrails Over The Country Club (watch Hayley Mary's excellent cover of the title track here) and Blue Banisters features collaborations with producers Jack Antonoff, Drew Erickson and Zach Dawes, engineer Laura Sisk, as well as guest vocalists Jon Batiste, Father John Misty, and Tommy Genesis.
