New Zealand’s BENEE and Australia’s Mallrat have joined forces for Do It Again, the official song for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. While the track won’t officially be released until Thursday, 29 June, it’s pretty epic to find out that two besties from New Zealand and Australia have scored this opportunity.
According to a press release, BENEE and Mallrat aimed to embody “the spirit of unity, celebration, and empowerment that characterises the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™" and deliver "an unforgettable backdrop for the tournament” with Do It Again.
On 20 July, the pair will take the Eden Park stage in Auckland, New Zealand, and deliver the live debut of Do It Again at the Opening Ceremony of the FIFA Women's World Cup.
"Being a small part of this incredible celebration of women's sport is an absolute dream come true for me," BENEE commented in a statement. “As a keen young football player, I just couldn't have imagined this!
“I've loved the experience of writing a song which I hope reflects my excitement at having the world's biggest women's sports event held on my home turf, and I can't wait to perform Do It Again live with Mallrat at the opening ceremony."
Mallrat added, “I was so excited when FIFA asked me to be involved in this massive event, alongside BENEE, who is one of my favourite artists and also people. I am really looking forward to this experience and feel super grateful that I get to share it with my friend.”

Are you ready? Stay tuned on 29 June to enjoy the full song from @BENEEMUSIC ft. @LilMallrat! 😍
In December, Mallrat revealed a new collaboration with The Chainsmokers in a new, extended mix of her emotional track, Wish On An Eyelash.
The Chainsmokers heard and loved the track so much that they decided to remix it and lengthen its running time.
Mallrat said, "A few weeks ago, I was completely taken by surprise when I logged on to Twitter to see The Chainsmokers had remixed the song out of pure love for it - we had never met or talked!
"For something so big to happen organically like this is really special and really rare. I am so excited for this interpretation of my track to be an introduction to a whole new audience. Thank you to The Chainsmokers." You can check that out below.
Last March, BENEE and her collaborator Josh Fountain joined the Billions List after her song Supalonely reached one billion plays on streaming services.
The 2019 alt-pop lockdown anthem was co-written alongside Brendan Rice and Canadian Jenna Andrews and featured New York singer-songwriter Gus Dapperton.
Supalonely quickly became a global lockdown anthem, reaching significant notoriety during Covid-19 lockdowns across 2020, with its corresponding dance challenge going viral on TikTok, including performances from J-Lo and Maddison Beer.
"To say that Supalonely came along at just the right time is an understatement. In a locked-down world, it struck a chord around the globe just as we all needed a tune like this the most," Ant Healey, APRA AMCOS NZ Head of Operations, said at the time.
