Kings Of Leon Drummer: Sydney Golf Course Is On The 'F*ck It List'

Kings Of Leon drummer Nathan Followill isn't happy with a Sydney golf course.

The band are in Australia, enjoying a few days off after two New Zealand shows before their tour begins in Mildura - as part of the state government's Visit Victoria program - this Saturday, 29 October.

Yesterday morning, he discovered that the golf course has a strict "no tattoos" policy. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "A Sydney bucket list golf course for me just went on the fuck it list. I was told I would have to cover up my tattoos due to a "no tattoo policy". Welcome to the 1950s and a hell of a way to grow the game."

Bassist Jared Followill joined Neil Griffiths on The Green Room podcast and spoke of how far Kings Of Leon have come since their 2010 album, Come Around Sundown, and the corresponding tour. 

"Being in a 'rock band', people kinda want you to be a little bit debaucherous... that basically just enables you to kinda do whatever you want and just get extremely wild," Followill told Griffiths.

"And then you're exposed to these situations where everybody is doing that, but you're exposed to it more. So you're doing them kinda like every other night, and things can just start to spiral... that's why a lot of that stuff has taken down a lot of great artists because it's encouraged."

He continued, "We never really had a thing to where we said like, 'OK, we're not drinking anymore... we better stop drinking.' 

"We probably discussed things like, just basically, you gotta be able to function, you know? This is a big deal for all of us. This is our livelihood. A lot of people around us, all of their livelihoods as well, and a lot of people are riding on this.

"So, we just kinda got together... you kinda talk things out and try to figure out what's the best way to make everything work. And we found little things and little shortcuts here and there, and it just got better and better and better, until now we're just boring."

Kings Of Leon are touring Australia for the first time in over ten years, promoting their eighth album When You See Yourself. Following its release in March 2021, the record debuted on the ARIA Albums chart at #1, gifting the Nashville outfit their fourth local top-charting album.
