King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Announce 27th Album 'Phantom Island'

The ever-prolific King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard announced their 27th album last night (9 April), which will see them team up with an orchestra.

The ten-track album has been a project two years in the making, and was recorded during the same period that they made last year’s Flight B741. While the Australian psychedelic rockers haven’t yet revealed a release date for the album, they did share that more information will be shared next week (Tuesday, 15 April).

Next week, fans will be able to pre-order Phantom Island via the band’s own (p)doom Records, watch the music video for Deadstick, and participate in an “ask me anything” on Reddit.

Singer Stu Mackenzie said of the forthcoming album, “HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!!! A lot of love and time and energy and patience and growth went into this one. Can’t wait to grow wings and fly with all of you.”

The band unveiled the title track of the album in October. Mackenzie commented in a statement, “Hello world. So our last album was 10 songs. Except we recorded 20 in that session. Here’s a track from the other set of 10. It’s even more maxxed out than the last one. There’s a whole fuckin’ orchestra on there. Hahahahahah!

“But for real, what a joy to be alive. A privilege to be making music for a living and to be here still after all these years. If you’ve been listening to Gizz for a long time, thank you. We love you so much. If you’re just tuning in, welcome to the cult.”

While the band dropped five albums in 2022, in 2023, they released two albums: the heavy metal-inspired PetroDragonic Apocalypse Or, Dawn Of Eternal Night: An Annihilation Of Planet Earth And The Beginning Of Merciless Damnation and the synth-laden, electronic-influenced LP, The Silver Cord.
