Prolific psychedelic rock band King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard unveiled a new hard rock/heavy metal number, Gila Monster, to an audience in Tilburg, The Netherlands, over the weekend, with new footage surfacing on YouTube.

As it’s a live premiere of a new song, things like the title and the track itself can change between this past weekend and an official release. As the “GILA, GILA, GILA MONSTER” chant in the chorus suggests, that’s the song’s name for now.

Led by a hummable rock and roll riff, Gila Monster is a welcome track for the fans who enjoy King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard the most when there are guitars. Check it out below.

In January, the Melbourne group returned with another live album, Live At Red Rocks '22. The release features performances from the band's October and November 2022 gigs at the iconic Colorado venue, where they played three-hour sets on 10 and 11 October, as well as 2 November.

The mega-collection of 86 songs is available to stream and buy via Bandcamp. As Jambase notes, the live album is part of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's Bootlegger program, which allows fans to sell the audio in physical formats as long as they send some copies to the band to release on Gizzverse.com.

Last year, the Melbourne group released five albums alone, including Omnium Gatherum and Changes, which both debuted at #4 on the ARIA Albums Chart, the #6 album Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava, the #11 record Laminated Dream, and Made In Timeland, which hit #65.

Last June, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard won the inaugural $20,000 publicly-voted Environmental Music Prize.

The cult-adored Aussie band are renowned for their psychedelic rock, which links concepts of character with themes of climate change and futurism. Their 2020 single, If Not Now, Then When?, was set in a post-eco-apocalyptic time, questioning the inaction of our leaders and calling for immediate action on climate change.

The band donated the prize money to The Wilderness Society to further conversation and climate action in Australia.
