Blue Mountains singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin is heading for the US throughout March, April and May 2024, announcing solo residencies in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Brooklyn. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Jacklin cited a need to find “more joy in the indie rock touring circuit.”
According to Jacklin, the idea for a Las Vegas residency came to her as she began planning 2024 – “in the spirit of doing what I want next year, even if it doesn’t make sense, I decided I wanted to do a Vegas Residency,” she said. The idea made her laugh after being on a constant train of touring since releasing her first solo album in 2016. She added, “I want more joy in the indie rock touring circuit.”
On Instagram, she explained further:
I’m just approaching next year’s shows with a sense of play, I want to write on the go, try things out and slow things down for a second. I want to stay in the same city for more than a night, have some breathing room in between each show to really think about what I’m doing, why I’m drawn to songwriting and public performance and how I can change my practises to be more sustainable.
“Maybe I can even work on my enduring stage fright in intimate rooms where I can see people’s faces, feel their support, and remember that this is all just about connecting with other people at the end of the day, no need to freak out.
Jacklin then apologised for not visiting many cities, as she’s “just trying to find my way back to something or maybe find something completely new, and I struggle to do that when I’m being a relentless road dog. I'm just going to see how this feels and leave room next year for exploring and experimenting and feeling and living and loving”.
In October, Julia Jacklin’s track Love, Try Not To Let Go took out the award for Best Song at the Music Victoria Awards. A few days before, she performed her final show of the year at Adelaide’s Harvest Rock Festival.

The Music’s Michael Prebeg commented on her performance, “She instantly commands our attention with her vocals, which are delicate and powerful at the same time. Her raw confessional writing style tugs at the heartstrings and takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions as we take in her exceptional lyricism combined with enchanting guitars.”
