JPEGMAFIA has confirmed his return to Australian stages will come sooner than later, plotting a four-date tour for early next year.
The genre-bending rapper’s Lay Down My Life tour will kick off in Brisbane (Meanjin), with a show at the Fortitude Music Hall set to go down on Friday February 28. He’ll take to Sydney (Eora) next, playing the Enmore Theatre on Tuesday March 4, before rolling on down to Melbourne (Naarm) for a show at The Timber Yard that Friday (March 7). And finally, the following night (March 8), he’ll wrap things up with a gig at Metropolis in Perth (Boorloo).
Tickets to all four shows go on sale at 11am local time this Friday (July 5), following a 24-hour presale that kicks off at 10am this Wednesday (July 3) – head here for more info on both sales.
The tour comes in support of JPEGMAFIA’s as-yet-untitled fifth solo album, which is expected to arrive sometime before the year’s end. He confirmed the album’s existence last month, announcing it alongside the release of its lead single, don’t rely on other men. The record will follow up on 2021’s LP! as well as his collaborative album with Danny Brown, last year’s SCARING THE HOES.
JPEGMAFIA last toured Australia for Listen Out 2023, with a handful of his own shows sprinkled throughout the tour. Reviewing the Melbourne date for Purple Sneakers, I wrote: “Below the surface-level slick of bonkers energy and meme-infused irony, Peggy is simply an incredible rapper – and arguably an even better producer. And in this live setting, bolstered by his crowd’s intensity and the intrinsic spontaneity of performance, the songs take on a new life.

“Their impact is amplified – Peggy’s barbed quips lash harder and sting longer, the beats wallop more fiercely – and it becomes clear that while his studio efforts are undoubtably great, it’s here onstage that Peggy truly shines.”
