Josh Homme 'Really Wants' Them Crooked Vultures To Reunite

Josh Homme wants the short-lived supergroup Them Crooked Vultures to get back together.

Them Crooked Vultures, starring Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme on vocals and guitar, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums, and former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, released just one album, their self-titled LP in November 2009. They were around in 2010, touring in the US, UK and Europe, including slots at Download Festival, Coachella and Rock Am Ring.

In January 2010, the supergroup performed in Australia, playing shows at Perth’s HBF Stadium, Melbourne’s Festival Hall, Brisbane’s Riverstage and Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion. While in New Zealand, John Paul Jones revealed that the trio had plans to record a second album.

Rumours and questions about Them Crooked Vultures’ reuniting have floated around since the band’s hiatus began in 2010. In 2012, Dave Grohl stated, “Someday, we'll get back together and do stuff because we love playing with each other.”

Fast forward to 2022, the first time Them Crooked Vultures had played together in years, appearing for brief performances at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts.

Overnight, Josh Homme discussed the possibility of the band reuniting in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) fan-driven interview on Reddit.

Going the extra mile for his fans, Homme responded to the question “Any chance of Them Crooked Vultures 2: Electric Boogaloo?” via video, posting to YouTube.

“On the subject of Vultures, it’s sort of not my job to put Vultures back together; that’s Dave’s job,” Homme began, adding that his job is to “dance around, write words and try to make some music with the guys.”

Homme continued to say, “I really want to” get the band back together, claiming that “Dave knows this. I really want the Vultures to get back together, get the band back together and do one more round because the band is so strange, the music is so strange and perverse…

“I had such a joyous time on those tours, being in that band, and because the other guys are Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones [laughs].”

Commenting on the possibility of the band reuniting, Homme said, “Is there any chance? Yeah. Is it a good chance? No.”
