Jack Black Addresses Why Perth Isn't On Tenacious D's Upcoming Aus Tour

Jack Black has spoken about why Tenacious D aren’t heading to Perth on their upcoming Australian tour, saying he doesn’t know why Perth isn’t on the schedule and promising to play there “next time”.

In a new interview on Mix94.5 Breakfast with Kymba Cahill, the singer, actor, and comedian said about the band’s forthcoming gigs: “I just got this tour schedule proposed to us.”

He continued (via Perth Now), “I’m going to throw the promoter under the bus; I don’t know why we aren’t playing Perth. Next time. [Perth is] the resting place of Bon Scott, greatest lead singer of all time!”

Black wasn’t interviewed about the tour, but in promotion of his latest film project, Kung Fu Panda 4.

In the film, Black reprises his role as Po, the title character and protagonist of the animated film series, as he tries to train his successor as “Dragon Warrior”. He and his team must also defeat an evil sorceress voiced by Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis.

Earlier this month, Tenacious D went viral on TikTok and made global headlines with their cover of Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time, which plays at the end of Kung Fu Panda 4’s film credits. They went viral on TikTok because of a video in which Black and his bandmate, Kyle Gass, enthusiastically lip-synced and danced to their version of their 90s classic.

At the Los Angeles movie premiere for Kung Fu Panda 4, a reporter with Entertainment Tonight asked Black if he had a message for Spears since the video went viral.

Black shared his admiration for Spears, stating, “Britney, if you're watching, I love you. I love the song.” Discussing the duo’s cover of …Baby One More Time, Black added, “We're very proud of it, [and] I hope you like it, too.”

When it was suggested that Tenacious D should consider a collaboration with Spears, Black responded, “I'm here! I'm ready when you are. I'm waiting by the phone. I got kicks! I don't quite have Britney kicks, but you know, I got some moves.”

Tenacious D will return to Australia this July for their first concerts in the country in ten years. The demand has led to multiple sold-out shows and an extra (and final) show in Sydney. Final tickets are on sale now via Frontier Touring.
