The team behind LGBTQIA+ music festival Space Girls have unveiled their next endeavour, a new event in Gympie called OUTER SPACE.
Scheduled for Thursday June 27, the youth-focussed event will run from 2pm to 7pm at Gympie’s headspace location. It’ll be open to all ages, with free entry for punters under the age of 25 (which organisers say ensures that “everyone in the community has the opportunity to join in the celebration”).
“This festival is more than just a music event,” Cindy Vogels (founder and co-director of Space Girls) said in a press release, “it's a celebration of who we are as a community. By spotlighting female and LGBTIQ+ artists, we hope to inspire and empower everyone who attends, reminding them of the beauty and strength in diversity.”
The live music program will be headlined by trailblazing indie-rocker Ixaras, who just this month launched her own record label, Anti-Dismal, and dropped the belting single Fresh Figure. The 16-year-old polymath will be joined on the OUTER SPACE stage by fellow up-and-coming singer-songwriters Ella Fence and Savannah Jones, plus pop-rock band Hugo And The Hive.
Beyond that, a press release for the event notes that it’ll feature “various stalls, interactive activities, and workshops designed to engage and inspire”.
In the same release, organisers said that OUTER SPACE “aims to celebrate the rich diversity within our community, providing a platform for voices that often go unheard and creating an environment where everyone feels seen and valued”. They continue: “The event will highlight the importance of inclusion and the strength found in our differences, making it a perfect way to celebrate Pride Month.”
