“I’ve felt like an outsider."
Melbourne hip hop artist Ivan Ooze has announced he will go on an indefinite hiatus after one final run of shows.
In a lengthy Facebook statement, the rapper said he had been “contemplating doing this for quite some time” and that it was “time to turn the page to the next chapter”.
Ooze said his heart had started to “move in another direction”, but also cited his place within the Australian hip hop scene as a contributing factor.
“Being brutally honest, I’ve always felt like I’m not accepted in the Australian hip hop scene, especially by other artists, which has at times felt like being back at high school bullied by the cool kids,” he said.
“I’ve felt like an outsider that most had already formed an incorrect opinion about which has sucked. I’ve matured so much since starting this journey but it seems like a lot of people who I’ve crossed paths with have not. Some still even hold something against me. As much as this has affected me over the years it’s only part of the reason why I’m putting Ivan Ooze on hiatus.”
