Jason Lipshutz, the executive director of music at Billboard, promises to release the first-ever “full, comprehensive” biography of Linkin Park, with the new book arriving in October.
It Starts With One: The Legend And Legacy Of Linkin Park will be released on Tuesday, 1 October, in the US and Australia – Booktopia is the only local bookseller listing the book as available to pre-order at the time of publication.
The book is Lipshutz’s first, with the author stating that he’s “thrilled” to announce the release in partnership with Hatchette Books. Lipshutz has described the book as “part biography, part critical analysis, and a full appreciation of the band’s identity, sound, fame, message and legacy”.
Lipshutz began writing It Starts With One two years ago when he discovered there wasn’t a comprehensive book on Linkin Park. “That seemed unfathomable to me, so I wrote it,” Lipshutz wrote on Instagram.
“While the book is as comprehensive as I could make it, I never wanted my voice to be the be-all and end-all,” Lipshutz continued, revealing that he spoke to other artists, “touring partners, studio collaborators, musicians that exist in the extended Linkin Park universe” to gain insights into their memories and admirations of the rock band. Lipshutz will soon announce the list of artists featured in the book.
Better still, Lipshutz will honour Linkin Park’s legacy of “championing and destigmatising mental health care” by personally donating a portion of the book’s proceeds to US nonprofit organisations National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and Backline.

In other Linkin Park news, last month, the band announced their latest Greatest Hits album, Papercuts, which will be released on Friday, 12 April.
The 20-song release spans the band’s singles released in a two-decade-plus career, as well as the previously unreleased song Friendly Fire and fan-favourite rarity QWERTY finally getting an official release.
