Interpol & Bloc Party Heading To Australia For A Co-headline Tour In November

Your 2000s indie rock dreams can come true this November, as US legends Interpol and UK heroes Bloc Party are heading to the east coast of Australia for a co-headline tour.

The pair of indie rock heavyweights are both regarded as quintessential bands of the early 2000s; whether they dominated the New York City hubs or the cold British landscapes, Interpol and Bloc Party have provided the soundtracks for fans who couldn’t get enough of guitar-driven, angst-ridden tunes.

With Interpol arriving in Australia for the first time since 2019 and Bloc Party touching down for the first time in five years, the co-headliners will each deliver their magnetic presences to massive venues on the east coast.

Presented by Destroy All Lines and Double J, the tour begins on Thursday, 16 November, at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl. The bands will then head to Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion and Brisbane’s Riverstage.

“We are so happy to be hitting the road with our friends Bloc Party in Australia. Come on down,” Interpol said in a statement.

Bloc Party vocalist Kele Okereke added, “The histories of Bloc Party and Interpol are intertwined at various stages of our careers. It made perfect sense to us to solidify that by playing some massive shows together in one of our favourite countries on earth. We can’t wait to get back to Australia in November.”

On Interpol’s January 2019 gig at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre, The Music’s Madison Thomas placed the show in her writer’s Hall Of Fame, writing, “From the lighting design, to the band’s performance itself, it is difficult to think of a more cohesive, beautifully performed, endlessly gorgeous show in recent memory.”

Bloc Party, meanwhile, played their seminal 2005 debut album, Silent Alarm, in its entirety last time they were in Australia, with The Music’s Luke Dassaklis declaring that “Each song brought more and more energy, building the Hordern up to a loud and thrilling crescendo.”
