Ice Cube Says He'll Sue Any A.I. Creator Who Uses His Voice To Make Music

Ice Cube has made it clear he's not about people using artificial intelligence to remix his music, even going as far as to warn he'll sue any AI creator who uses his voice.

Speaking in a recent interview on the Full Send Podcast, the rap legend (real name O'Shea Jackson) reflected on the rise in AI music covers in recent months, which sees artists' voices covering other popular tracks - and he's obviously not a fan of the growing trend.

"I don't wanna hear an AI Drake song," Jackson said in the chat. “Yeah, I don’t wanna hear that bullsh*t. He should sue whoever made it."

Asked by co-host Kyle Forgeard what he would do if someone produced an AI track using his voice, Ice Cube didn't hold back on his thoughts. 

“I'mma sue the muthaf*cka who made it and the people and the platform who play it," he said. 

"It’s like a sample, you know what I mean? Somebody can't take your original voice and manipulate it without having to pay. I think A.I. is demonic [and] I think A.I. is going to get a backlash from organic people.”

The use of AI-produced music has generated mixed responses in the music industry. Recently, Timbaland, who utilised AI to create a song using the voice of Notorious B.I.G., revealed told Forbes that he plans to found a startup that will “commercialise artificial intelligence software” in hopes of “revolutionising how songs are made."

His comments, however, were met with criticism by revered engineer Young Guru, who called Timbaland's plan "corny".

"Timbaland, I love you my brother. You know I do. But this ain't it. This is dangerous at a basic level and it's corny. I will be on the side of the Luddites," he commented on Timbaland's Instagram post.

Young Guru previously spoke out about his disdain for AI in a lengthy Instagram post after hearing an AI-generated Kendrick Lamar song back earlier this year.

“You can copyright a song, or a speech but not the voice itself!!!” Guru wrote. “You can literally create a song or an album in the voice of your favourite musician. And this is just music. The ability to create a Manchurian Candidate scares me. Think about that in every industry.”
