They'll be in town for WOMADelaide
Seeing as French-Cuban duo Ibeyi (pronounced ee-bey-ee) will be in our fine land next March for WOMADelaide, the twin sisters have also announced that they'll be heading up a handful of shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth to coincide with their visit.
The duo will perform at Perth Festival on Friday 4 March, then Black Bear Lodge on Sunday, 6 March, Oxford Art Factory on Tuesday, 8 March, Max Watt's Melbourne on Thursday, 10 March, and of course WOMADelaide which runs from Friday, 11 March to Sunday, 13 March.
The 20-year-old siblings have most recently released their self-titled debut on XL Recordings to much acclaim, having grown up with myriad influences such as their father's time in the Buena Vista Social Club, their first two years living in Cuba but later growing up and living in Paris. Their music is sung in a blend of English, French and Yoruban, a Nigerian language that the girls' ancestors spoke before being brought to Cuba by the Spanish.
