'I'm Lucky To Be Alive': Halsey Reveals Health Battle On New Single 'The End'

American alternative singer-songwriter Halsey (who uses she/they pronouns) has shared details of her private health battle alongside the drop of their acoustic new single, The End.

In pictures and videos posted to Instagram today (5 June), the Without Me singer appeared to be receiving infusions. The caption for the post reads: “Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album.”

While she didn’t reveal her diagnosis, Halsey did tag the Lupus Research Alliance and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Instagram and will donate to both organisations (per the Associated Press).

“I feel like an old lady,” Halsey said in the first video as she massaged her legs.

They added, “I told myself, I'm giving myself two more years to be sick. At 30, I'm having a rebirth, and I'm not going to be sick, and I'm gonna look super hot and have lots of energy, and I'm just gonna get to redo my twenties and my thirties.”

In other clips, the singer documented their first day of treatment before tracking more of her health journey. The End also details her struggles with illness, with Halsey singing in the first line of the song, “Every couple of years now, a doctor says I'm sick.”

Halsey has been open about health issues throughout the years, with the singer openly discussing their journey with endometriosis, undergoing surgery for the condition in 2017 and 2022.

The End – and her upcoming album – serve as the follow-up to Halsey’s 2021 album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, produced by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power is a brave and ambitious record, one that Halsey, Reznor and Ross manage to successfully pull off.

Halsey also received complimentary reviews from The Music’s Alasdair Belling and Jess Martyn, who saw them perform at Falls Festival Byron Bay in January 2020 – her most recent stops down under.
