There's a tonne of new music released every Friday and wading through it to find your next favourite album is an almost impossible task. 'The Music' team get it and we're here to help, bringing you our Album Of The Week each Friday. Here's why Haiku Hands' 'Haiku Hands' is this week's pick.
In 2017, Haiku Hands made their BIGSOUND debut - and what an entry it was! It was near impossible to get in to see them and in the months after it became apparent that people certainly hadn't got enough of the group.
A slew of deals followed in the months after, as did international tours, support slots and festival headline spots.
In November last year, the trio - Claire Nakazawa, Beatrice Lewis and Mie Nakazawa - inked a deal with Diplo's label Mad Decent, joining the likes of Major Lazer, Dillon Francis, Sean Paul and fellow Aussies like SLUMBERJACK, Nina Las Vegas and What So Not on the roster.
After a huge few years, it's finally time for the group to release self-titled, debut album. The album saw Haiku Hands work with producers Joel Ma (Joelistics) and Angus Stuart (Hermitude) and take influence from hip hop, dance, pop, electronic and everything in between to produce one of the year's buzziest albums.

Joelistics' is a master of many things. Here we are checking his bitcoin mid session. - Mie
This is a photo taken with Angus Stuart aka Elgusto of Hermitude in their studio in Sydney. Angus has been a big part of this album and shaping our sound. He is a super talented producer and lovely person and he has been with us since the beginning. He feels like he is a part of the band. - Beatrice
In the studio. - Mie
Some of our earliest session in Joel's cupboard in Melbourne 2015: ’get in the cupboard!’ - Claire
That feeling when you write a banga. This photo captures exactly the feeling I had at points during the writing of this album. - Beatrice

Buttons. Tea. Keys. Patch bays. Microphone check one, two, what is this? The five foot assassin with the roughneck business. Warm days in dark caves - Sydney Studio. - Beatrice
This photo was taken in Joel Ma’s kitchen in one of the first studios we started writing in. For me, a lot of our album has been about the drinks surrounding it, these include: many varieties of tea, soda water, freshly squeezed lemons, turmeric, coffees, hot chocolates, hot water to name a few… They have been very important assets for our songwriting and probably deserve some publishing splits. - Beatrice
We did a lot of our writing outside; on walks, at cafes and random roadside benches. - Claire
