Green Day will release their 14th album, Saviors, in two weeks, meaning there’s just enough time to drop and promote a new single… which is exactly what they’ve done.
Yesterday, the iconic punk rock trio – Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool surprise released One Eyed Bastard, a song that maybe interpolates P!nk’s So What in the main guitar riff. Green Day sound powerful, with Armstrong’s vocal sounding youthful, Dirnt’s bass in the forefront, and Cool keeping a fun beat. You can watch the animated music video below.
Announcing the release of One Eyed Bastard on social media, the band wrote, “What can we say? We're full of surprises. Got ONE more song for ya before Saviors drops in two weeks!! 🤯🤯 One Eyed Bastard is out everywhere nowwww”.
In addition to releasing the single, Green Day shared that a “very limited” amount of signed CDs and t-shirts/tri-colour vinyl are now available in their webstore. You can pre-order Saviors here.
Saviors will be released on Friday, 19 January, via Reprise Records.
The surprise drop of One Eyed Bastard follows the announcement of fast-impending Saviors listening parties – a week early – here’s where the Australian listening parties will be held.

In addition to new music, Green Day recently started teasing an Australian tour in support of Saviors.
In other Green Day news, the band made headlines earlier this week when Armstrong took a swing at ex-US President Donald Trump in his New Year’s Eve performance of American Idiot, broadcast live on primetime TV.
Saviors follows 2020’s Father Of All Motherfuckers. Thus far, it’s been previewed with three singles: The American Dream Is Killing Me, which landed in October of 2023, followed by Look Ma, No Brains! in November, and Dilemma in December.
For Saviors, Green Day reunited with producer Rob Cavallo, who produced the band’s mega-successful albums American Idiot and Dookie.
The band said about their new album, “Saviors is an invitation into Green Day’s brain, their collective spirit as a band, and an understanding of friendship, culture and legacy of the last 30 plus years. It's raw and emotional. Funny and disturbing. It’s a laugh at the pain, weep in the happiness kind of record. Honesty and vulnerability. What is Saviors about, you ask?”
“Power pop, punk, rock, indie triumph. Disease, war, inequality, influencers, yoga retreats, alt-right, dating apps, masks, MENTAL HEALTH, climate change, oligarchs, social media division, free weed, fentanyl, fragility...
“What would Andy Warhol do? What would John Waters do? What would Quentin Tarantino do? What would GREEN DAY do?”
