Green Day Are Letting Australian Fans Hear ‘Saviors’ Early At Special Events

A whole week before they release their new album Saviors, Green Day will let fans hear the record in full at a series of exclusive listening parties.

11 JANUARY UPDATE: Timing information for the listening parties has been revealed.

The band announced the worldwide initiative earlier today (January 4), mentioning on social media that all events will be free to attend, with merch giveaways also lined up. In addition to the US and Canada, listening parties will be held in Europe, Japan, Indonesia and, yes, Australia.

Fans along the east coast will have a chance to hear Saviors on Saturday January 13, with events being held at Rocking Horse Records in Brisbane (Meanjin), Co-Co Bananas in Melbourne (Naarm) and Utopia Records in Sydney (Eora).

When the events were initially announced, information about the times wasn’t included in the details. Today, Warner Music Australia has dished on the details fans need to know.

The Sydney listening party will run from 3 pm until 4:30 pm AEDT, while the Brisbane event runs from 4 pm until 5:30 pm AEST. The Melbourne event kicks off the earliest, with the listening party held from 10 am until 11:30 pm. Saviors – Green Day’s 14th studio album, following up on 2020’s Father Of All Motherfuckers – will be out on January 19 via Reprise. Thus far, it’s been previewed with three singles: The American Dream Is Killing Me landed in October of 2023, followed by Look Ma, No Brains! in November, and Dilemma in December.

In addition to these fast-impending listening parties, local Green Day will be happy to know that Billie Armstrong and co. have started teasing an Australian tour in support of Saviors.

In other Green Day news, the band made headlines earlier this week when Armstrong took a swing at ex-US President Donald Trump in his New Year’s Eve performance of American Idiot – which was broadcast live on primetime TV.

Right-wing pundits were expectedly enraged (showing, yet again, their hilarious lack of media literacy), but it’s not the first time Green Day have slammed Trump on national television. For example in 2016, at that year’s American Music Awards, the band led the now-famous chant, “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA!” In August of last year, too, they released a charity shirt gelling Trump’s mugshot with the artwork for their classic Nimrod album.
