Aussie metal group Void Of Vision have announced their fourth album, What I’ll Leave Behind – a release created in the aftermath of vocalist Jack Bergin’s near-death experiences in January 2022 and April 2023.
Lead single Gamma Knife finds the band balancing electronic and metal influences, with a soaring chorus showcasing how much Bergin has grown as a singer away from his signature screams.
“Gamma Knife is about my near-death experience and the desire for clarity in the aftermath,” Bergin commented in a press release. “To truly discover if everything I went through in the healing process would change me and everything around me for the better.
“I felt like the idea of going through radiosurgery figuratively felt like it was not only destroying the malformation in my brain but also a negative version of myself I needed to leave in the past.”

Last April, Bergin revealed that he’d take a break from music for a “short period” after treating a “brain AVM that ruptured”.

Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are tangles of blood vessels that cause abnormal artery-to-vein connections. If they rupture, an AVM can cause brain damage or a stroke.
In a statement posted to social media, Bergin wrote, “For the past week, I've been in hospital, beginning radio surgery to prematurely treat a brain AVM that ruptured last week. I've been living under the impression that I'd be able to handle touring/day-to-day life with this since I had it diagnosed and have definitely found out the hard way that I can't anymore.”
Last August, Void Of Vision returned with their first song and tour since Bergin’s post, and today, they announce their new LP What I’ll Leave Behind, a reflective, heavy album highlighting the catharsis necessary for the frontman and his bandmates.
Bergin explained, “The album is a reflection, on and of everything: coming to terms with life and mortality, finding inner peace from within the impact crater.
“I feel a lot better now about dealing with the future, about balancing my health and art. I’m grateful to be alive.”
The release of What I’ll Leave Behind – to drop on Friday, 20 September, via UNFD – coincides with Void Of Vision’s opening slot for Parkway Drive’s upcoming momentous Australian tour. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.
